COVID-19 GUIDELINES

All Wheeler Learn-To-Swim (WLTS) staff, participants and their guardians will adhere to the following COVID-19 guidelines while participating in the 2021 summer swimming lessons program:

General Guidelines:

*All WLTS staff and participating swimmers and their guardians should not attend lessons if they, or any member of their household

Test positive for COVID-19

Are awaiting results of a COVID-19 test

Are in active quarantine due to possible exposure to someone who has tested positive

Are exhibiting any of the following symptoms;  Fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle/body aches, headaches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea

*If a WLTS staff member, participant or guardian has attended lessons within two weeks of a positive COVID-19 test, or had close contact with (within 6 feet for 15 minutes) any person who has tested positive for COVID-19 must notify Coach Gass as soon as possible by calling 219-759-2561 ext 2251, or by emailing him at rgass@union.k12.in.us.

*Any WLTS staff member, participant or guardian that meets the criteria listed in the previous paragraph will not be allowed at lessons for 7 days after exposure with a negative test result taken on the 5th day after exposure, or 14 days from the date of a positive test result.

*If any participating member of the WLTS staff tests positive for COVID-19 all lessons will be suspended for 14 days, with either make-up days to follow, a prorated refund, or a credit for the summer 2022 lessons.

*Fees will not refundable for individual health related absences.  If possible, make-up days will be offered.

Out of water guidelines:

*Shields/face masks must be worn by all WLTS staff, participants and guardians in the parking lot and facility while on deck or in the stands.

*High touch areas will be wiped down between classes

*All patrons attending WLTS shall only use the pool facility, locker rooms, restrooms, and benches directly outside the pool windows.

*Toilets and sinks in the locker rooms and rest rooms will be wiped down between classes and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day.

*There will be at least 6 hand sanitizing stations set up around the pool deck.

*Social distancing of at least 6 feet must be maintained while in the facility, and we ask that only one guardian per family attends classes to keep the number of people to a minimum.

*Locker rooms will be used for bathroom breaks only, not for showering and changing clothes.  We also ask that they be used with only one swimmer at a time, and possibly a family member for very young children that may need assistance.

*Tape will used to mark 6 foot distances for all benches in the pool area, as well as around the top edge of the gutters around the pool.

In the water:

*Class sizes will be limited to 40 participants (down from 55), and group sizes will be maintained at 3-4 participants for the beginner levels, and 4-5 participants for the advanced levels.

*Class times will be shortened from 50 minutes to 45 minutes to allow for sanitizing the high touch areas, and to allow patrons from one class to exit the building before the next class starts to arrive.

*Instructors will wear face shields at all times, unless they are in the water demonstrating something.  Shields, as opposed to masks, will allow for the instructors to be more clearly understood and provide the benefit of the students being able to see the instructors lips/mouths while talking, as well as facial expressions that are an important part of the teaching process.

*Participants will keep their masks on until they are ready to enter the water for instruction.  They will place them on the benches or starting blocks that surround the pool while they are with their instructors, and must put them back on to walk anywhere on deck.

*Social distancing will be maintained while the participants are waiting on the wall for their turn with their instructor.

*There will be no un-necessary splashing, touching, spitting or yelling aloud by the participants.

*Social distancing diagrams for traffic flow into, out of, and around the pool will be posted in multiple locations, and discussed at the beginning of the first class for each session.

*Only one warning will be issued to participants for not following the guidelines set forth by the WLTS staff.  A second infraction will result in removal from that day’s class.
